Tips for Avoiding Costly Decorating Mistakes Here are some valuable tips for avoiding costly decorating mistakes.
1. Measure, measure, and measure again. Always measure doorway openings and corriders in your home to assure that the furniture pieces you order will fit.
2.When selecting your paint color for the intended room, always paint a 3x3 ft square on the wall and observe the color at all times of the day and under the artificial lighting that will be used in the room at night.
3.When trying to pull a decorating scheme together make a scheme board first to see if there is any imbalance in your selections,i.e too much of one color or not enough texture etc.
4.Draw a floor plan to scale of the intended space to be decorated before purchasing any furniture. This will ensure that you don't buy the wrong scale or more than the room can handle.
5. Order swatches for your custom bedding or custom furniture in order to get an accurate sense of the color and be able to accurately select a matching paint.
6.If after you've prepared a floor plan to scale , you still don't feel you have a true sense of the amount of space your furniture pieces or area rug will take up,you can take blue painters tape and place the tape on the floor where your pieces will be placed. This way you can get a visual on how much actual space they will take up.
7.Create a folder of all the different design styles you like from magazines or books and study what you prefer. This way making a selection will be much easier and you won't be overwhelmed with all the choices. Back to Articles |
